Does anybody else's scanner suck?

Mon Jul 21, 2008, 10:26 PM
So, since I started my project with Top Cow, scanning a page in 3's, and putting them together in PS isn't going to fly anymore, especially since my inker prints the pages out, then inks over em. So, they got me a scanner, and mailed it to me. It's Mustek A3 USB 1200 PRO, which I picked out. I love it, I can't believe how easy it is to just scan my page in, adjust the contrast and whatever else, and then done.
I have been having connection problems, however, and i've been close to throwing this thing out the window! I installed the drivers, it worked, but then I didn't unplug it, and when I went to turn my computer on the next day, it kept saying: "USB device not recognized." Or if I do remember to unplug it, when I turn my computer on, then plug it in, it's like it's not even connected! The only way I can get it working again is if I uninstall it, then re-install the drivers all over again! It really sucks, and most of the time I don't even want to deal with it. I read a bunch of how to's online, but they left me confused. Does anyone have a scanner like mine? If so, do you have, or have had the same issues? I have XP, so if you can help a brotha out, that would be wonderful and greatly appreciated.

I still scan stuff in pieces :D I have a Mustek but I haven't got space for it -- my broken down Epson 1280 printer takes up all the room lol.

Dude, I have the same exact scanner...cheap, yet effective. I've not had any problems like that... Mine is hooked up to my laptop and I use XP as well. I remember that I opted not to download all of the software it came with like some photo editing disc or something. It could be your USB cord. I have two and the scanner only works with one of them (the more expensive one). Aside from the issues you're having, the scanner is bad ass. So sweet to just scan it directly into PS with one sweep! Good luck with it and props for scoring the Top Cow gig!

maybe you should use your good looks to get a new computer. wink. wink.
sounds like you may need to get a new scanner, or the usb cord..... thats a shitty problem bro. I remember being able to use a scanner like that at SCAD while i was there, it made me the happiest man in the world..... Sucks that's giving you issues, call the makers and make them help you (smack'em around a bit, that should help=])

damn do I have a lot to learn.....
This is not uncommon for any peripheral. Go to the manufacturers website and see if there is a patch or an updated driver you can download. That usually does the trick...

i've got the same one and it does do that. or basically. i've only ever just had to unplug it and leave it unplugged until i'm ready to use it again. then plug it in and scan. works like, 99.9 % of the time. good enough.
My scanner does that all the time. It's also terrible and refuses to pick up all of the lines. C:
